We are bringing together a bumper pack of SHIFT+SPACE to you this spring. Spanning all the way from February 13th until 30th May, every weekend we have a new work in progress performance for you to enjoy. Shift+Space works on a feedback model, so as an audience member you can help shape these productions and boost them to the next level. Every show is low cost or Pay What You Can (so it’s a bargain) and, the entire box office goes to the artist involved, your support could be game changing for these companies and their productions. For the Love of Jollibee by Sierra Sevilla 13th & 14th Feb 7.30pm Start your valentines weekend off right with a proclamation of love…to Jollibee. Set somewhere between a fast-food counter and a childhood memory, the show follows Sierra Sevilla’s obsession with Jollibee: the Filipino fast-food icon that somehow tastes like home, heartbreak, and happiness all at once. Inexhaustible by Sofia Castello y Tickell 20th & 21st February 7.30pm Join marine conservation scientist Dr Sofia Castello y Tickell, as they navigate marine conservation and early career academia in the midst of a biodiversity crisis. Phantasia by Afnaan Osman 27th & 28th February 7.00pm Phantasia follows Ayaan, a young Somali woman who slips away into Phantasia, a fully realised inner world she builds for herself. Step inside Ayaan’s mind, witness her private world and ultimately become both observer and participant. Trace of the Forgotten by Gabriela Torres Gil 6th & 7th March 7.30pm An intermedial theatre production blending live performance and digital media, which takes you on a journey through a fading mind — where memory, love, and exile intertwine as time slips away. The Road to Kasese by Eddie Kagutuzi 20th and 21st March 7pm An immersive experience that takes place the day after the military coup of Uganda in 1971. Meat Me in Shoreditch by Valery Reva 27th & 28th March 7pm A show about what happens when the hunger to be seen, desired, and validated is pushed just a little too far. In a city chasing perfection, who survives the hunt…and who ends up on the menu? The Penguin by Tobias Cambrai 10th & 11th April 7.30pm A hilarious descent into modern loneliness, The Penguin is a darkly funny, achingly tender story about loneliness, late-night phone calls, and the penguins who just walk away from the colony and never come back. Her and the Voice in Her Head by Lorraine Adeyefa 17th & 18th April 7.30pm Through freestyle rap, spoken word, voiceovers, and moments of song, we are taken into the mind of ‘Her’, as she moves through heartbreak, self-doubt, memory, and the beginnings of healing. Spicy White by Laila Latifa 24th & 25th April 7.30pm Spicy White asks what happens when authority disguises itself as care, when judgement hides behind procedure, and when certain voices are repeatedly misunderstood or erased. Altar by Mya Onwugbonu 1st & 2nd May 7.30pm The story follows BOY, a young black man burdened by the weight of his past and the impending loss of his mother. Through a non-linear, fragmented narrative, Altar weaves together moments from BOY’s past and present, revealing his complicated relationship with love. SON by Restitched Theatre 8th & 9th May 7.30pm A transgender teen comes out to his family, navigating moments of support, misunderstanding, and rejection, while discovering the power of chosen family - those who see and affirm him for who he truly is. Period Drama by Malini Raman-Middleton 15th & 16th May 7.30pm Blending comedy, raw honesty, and the constant monologuing of a teenage girl, ‘Period Drama’ is a coming of age comedy drama about chronic pain and the search for identity in a body that won’t listen. Rulebook to Society by Hannah Whitfield 22nd and 23rd May 7.30pm Blending spoken word, alt-pop, movement and dark humour, the piece follows a young protagonist navigating schools, institutions and adulthood while constantly being misread, corrected and punished for her difference. SWEETNESS by Ye-Ye Esohe 29th & 30th May 7.30pm How do you survive, always having to be strong, solid, tough, never gentle, never sweet, never…soft? Sweetness is a darkly funny play about confronting traumas and revealing the true damage of hidden secrets and generational trauma.
